Ala Modalaindi - Nandini’s debut venture fruitful
Nani is basically an assistant director and he had a chance to work as a RJ for a FM station in Hyderabad. While working as RJ, he got an opportunity to appear on screen for a film called ‘Ashta Chemma’. Though he got recognition for himself as an actor with his debut film, he settled as an artiste after the release of his second film ‘Bhimili Kabaddi Jattu’. Now, his latest film ‘Ala Modalayindi’ directed by a debutant woman director Nandini Reddy had hit the screen. Let us find out how he fared in his third film.
Story
Gautham (Nani) works for a television channel. He gets kidnapped by John Abraham (Asish Vidyarthi) and the story of the film unravels as a flash back during their journey. Gautham falls in love with Kavya (Sneha Ullal). At the same time, Nitya (Nitya Menon) who stays in Bengaluru who was betrothed to her relative Deepak (Chaitanya). Despite there is love interest and got engaged, both Gautham and Nithya develop interest on one another, while they had an accidental meet in the marriage of Simran (Kriti Karbandha). Due to some strange reason Kavya refuses the love of Gautham. Though falls in depression, Gautham recovers quickly with the support of his mother Revati (Rohini) and gets back into job and starts enjoying his life with his mother and then he develops love interest towards Nitya. Then Gautham comes to know that Nitya was already engaged to Deepak. But, unable to forget the sweet moments and her love towards Gautham, Nitya breaks the alliance and decides to return to Gautham. Did Nitya and Gautham unite? If so how had to be seen on the screen.
What is good
Nani improved in his performance capabilities. He is growing with every movie and he was able to show extreme ease in his body language and histrionics. Especially, he was good to watch as am urbane lover boy. Moreover, he delivers his acting with extreme confidence and his dialogue modulation is excellent, which could cover the drawbacks in his performance if any. Nitya Menon is good looking. Though, she appears a little fatty, she had the ability to deliver good performance. Her curly hair and expressive eyes are the real assets and she faced the camera as if she is a seasoned artiste, though this is her debut venture. Sneha Ullal is okay in a brief role, while Rohini, Pragati, Appaji, Kriti Karbandha did justice to their roles. The comedy part was looked after by Asish Vidyarthi and Hemant. Though this is the debut film for Hemant, who is famous as a radio jockey in Radio Mirchi, he had bright chances of becoming a good comedian in Telugu.
Behind the screen
Kalyani Mallick showed his prowess as music director in the background score. Many scenes were elevated by the music. However, the tunes given by him remained average, though their choreography is visually appealing. But the main draw back is the poor cinematography in the movie. Most of the scenes were not properly shot and the lighting were not maintained properly. The director totally concentrated on the emotional quotient and strived hard to make the audiences stay glued to their seats. The lead artistes also cooperated with her in a perfect way making the film more interesting. However, the emotional graph faced several ups and downs confusing the audiences in many scenes. The director worked on the characterisation of all the artistes in a natural way and the penning of situational comedy for the film reaped hearty laughs. Editing is okay and the dialogues are good in parts. Ranjith Movies’ production values are praiseworthy.
Analysis
Though the first few minutes appear boring, the film picked up momentum but lacked lustre for few minutes. Moreover, the ups and downs in the emotional quotient some how settled by the interval bang. The second half picked up momentum and the audiences would get relief with the perfect comedy timing of Asish Vidyarthi and the film gives a feel of watching a nice film by the time the film reaches climax.
Verdict
Despite being a debutant the director made worthy and commendable bid to narrate the film in an impressive manner.
